We Have Handed Over the Final Phase at Victoria Riverside Mill Development in Hunslet

The final phase of 350 high-quality homes at Victoria Riverside Hunslet Mill Development has been completed and handed to our developer JM Construction (Leeds) Ltd.

The handover marks the completion of the five-year £50m residential scheme.

As the key developments and investments for South Bank regeneration Programmes to add to the Northern Powerhouse, Victoria Riverside Hunslet greatly contributed to the regeneration projects, which aims to double the size of Leeds city centre with 8,000 new homes and 35,000 new jobs over the next decade.

Anthony Lupton, managing director at BDA, said:

“We are extremely proud to deliver this 5-year regeneration project. Over the past years, Victoria Riverside Hunslet proved to be one of the most stunning high-spec mill conversions through its innovative design and cutting-edge building solutions.”

“It has won us three consecutive LABC Regional Building Excellence Awards in 2020, 2021, and 2022 and has been selected as one of the best practice mill conversions that have a considerable contribution to Northern England in terms of sustainability and impact on the community.”

“We would like to take the opportunity to thank Leeds City Council planning department, English Heritage and Bradford Building Control, and all the subcontractors involved with the build, who have all played significant roles in delivering this ground-breaking scheme.”

John Mulleady, of JMC, added: “It’s been an incredible journey for us to bring these derelict mills buildings alive, which were on the brink of demolition. The scheme intelligently and beautifully merges the modern touches with its historical character and accomplishes the purpose of providing environmental, social, and cultural sustainability for future generations to enjoy.”

The complex is comprised of two new-build buildings and five conversions of the former grade II listed Hunslet and Victoria flax spinning mills dating back to 1842 which have stood empty since the early 1970s. They were earmarked for demolition given their deteriorating condition before the Leeds-based developer JM Construction acquired the buildings in 2017.

Its significant features include high-specification rooftop penthouses with outside balconies providing panoramic views of the ever-changing Leeds skyline. Each apartment has an open plan living area that boasts daylight from the large windows, and high ceilings run through the property, showcasing the building’s historic function, whilst also creating bright, airy spaces for living.

Located on the River Aire, the development enjoys an excellent location adjacent to the river Aire and offers easy access to Leeds city centre and the wider motorway network, which makes it an emerging place to live.
